The International Student Advisor is part of an advising team committed to supporting the international population at NDSU, with over 700 international students representing more than 70 countries. The international student advisor is responsible for providing immigration and other advising support for international students and serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 student program.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Advise F-1 and other non-immigrant students regarding immigration matters
  • Communicate with prospective and newly admitted international students related to immigration document processing
  • Complete regular required reporting in the Student Exchange and Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
  • Support programming coordinator with orientation and programming activities
  • Provide additional support for office

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday 8:00-5:00, 7:30-4:00 during breaks and summer

Advertised Salary:

$44,000

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree

International skills including evidence of sensitivity to and acceptance of people from diverse cultures

Experience studying, working or living abroad

Foreign language training experience

Experience with Microsoft Office

Excellent written communication skills

Evidence of ability and use of judgement in organizing tasks and setting priorities

Ability to assume Designated School Official (DSO) role for the F-1 student program, which requires U.S. lawful permanent resident status as per U.S. Department of Homeland Security regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional experience working in a higher education environment

Professional experience with federal immigration regulations, especially non-immigrant regulations

Experience working as a Designated School Official

Experience using Perceptive Content document imaging
