Purpose of the Position:
The HR Assistant reports to the Director, Technology and Innovation, and provides a wide range of administrative support and reception services for the Office of Human Resources. This role is a key member of the team and often serves as the “face” of HR to department visitors, and therefore, is essential to the customer service delivery efforts of the department.


  • Serve as the primary lead for the HR front office reception performing general clerical and customer service duties
  • Process departmental mail and deliver to team.
  • Ensure confidentiality of information regarding salary, terminations, retirements, and personnel matters
  • Process employment verifications
  • Process background checks for non-staff employees
  • Provide notification to departments related to pre-employment actions (completed background checks, I-9 start dates)Assist

in processing unemployment claims

  • Answer phones, file, conduct file maintenance., mass mailings, and delivery office mail
  • Assist in the management of employee electronic personnel files and recordkeeping
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field, plus 1 year of full-time verifiable work experience in an office setting (or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer/data entry skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to accurately gather, track, and analyze data

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources is desirable.
  • Experience working within a Human Resources and/or within an academic environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of HR practices and terminology is desirable.
