Description of Work Unit

Colorado State University is a large land-grant research institution employing over 10,000 full and part-time faculty, exempt and non-exempt professionals, classified staff and student employees. The University’s Human Resources Department is led by the Vice President of Human Resources and has responsibility for wide-ranging activities including, but not limited to: all employee benefits; payroll; compensation; Human Resources service center; recruitment, employment selection and classification for State Classified personnel as well as general oversight of the State Personnel System within the University; employee relations; personnel policy development and interpretation; employee records and personnel action processing; and the human resource management information system (HRIS). Position Summary

This position supports the design, implementation, efficacy, and compliance of the University’s benefit health, welfare, and retirement programs. This position carries out responsibilities in monitoring and improving programs, self-funded plan financials and manages the interpretation of benefit policies, programs, and practices.

At this time, this position will have a hybrid work model and a flexible rotation among the benefits team within the on-site office when not working remotely to achieve service excellence of our faculty and staff.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Associates of Applied Science degree from an accredited institution in finance, accounting, business, human resources or another related field of study
  • 2 years of human resources or health insurance company experience

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, human resources or another related field of study
  • More than 2 years of experience in closely related positions where human resources duties or benefits administration was an instrumental job duty
  • Oracle (EBS) experience in OAB
  • Able to interpret and communicate how to read an explanation of benefits
  • Fee payment experience in excel or financial accounting systems
  • Certificate in benefits up to and including the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)

* Drive, develop and manage broad benefit initiatives and programs
* Project manage open enrollment process
* Influence and support design of benefit communication strategy
* Participate in third party administrator selection and plan design process, participate in request for proposals, provide census data, etc.
* Support new program implementations
* Perform financial recordkeeping duties for all benefit programs
* Develop and foster relationships with external vendors and partners
