Position Description
Summary/Purpose:
The School of Applied Liberal Arts and Social Sciences seeks candidates for an Academic Advisor. The
successful candidate will work with the Director of Academic Advising, program directors, and faculty to support students pursuing degrees
in fields such as nursing, public health, and health sciences. This is a 12-month full-time position.
Essential Job
Functions/Primary Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Advising, the successful candidate
will:
- Advise students in planning an academic program as it relates to their education and career goals
- Communicate
with students in-person, by phone, in writing, or via other means (e.g., text, video) - Interpret academic policies and monitor
students’ progress and compliance with scholastic standards, plans of study, and course and graduation requirements - Counsel
students and troubleshoot problems that interfere with students’ academic progress and work effectively to resolve them - Make
referrals to student support services as appropriate - Manage web-based applications related to student records, electronic
portfolios, and data collection needed for school and program performance reports - Compile student data and prepare reports
- Participate in all school-level activities and fulfill related responsibilities in the department or college as determined by the
Director of Academic Advising - Conduct all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed
Other Functions:
- Performs other related work as directed by the Director of Academic Advising or as
situations dictate - Continues professional learning
- Stays current with trends in advising
- Assists other department
staff as needed in support of effective team functioning

Skills:
Minimum Required
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
- A master’s degree in higher education, student services,
or counseling - At least two years of professional experience in higher education advising or counseling or providing academic
supports to students - Member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) preferred
