- Provides academic advising to undergraduate students to supplement faculty advising.
- Addresses student academic concerns and provides referrals to campus resources.
- Develops and leads workshops and programs to enhance advising initiatives.
- Builds links with other university offices and support services such as Campus Life, International Student and Scholar Programs, and the Center for International Programs Abroad.
- Assists with academic orientation activities.
- Develops and manages database records and reports.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
Academic Advisors in the Emory College Office of Undergraduate Education provide academic advising services to all Emory College undergraduate students. Position duties include:
- Proactive advising for special populations
- First-Year mandatory meetings
- Probation advising
- General advice, referral to campus resources, and policy/procedure clarification delivered via appointments, weekly walk-in hours, phone, drop-in, and Add/Drop/Swap advising.
- Pre-registration advising and Transfer student onboarding in summer as well as Oxford onboarding twice per year.
- Participate in annual orientation activities including A/D/S.
- Participate in ECS 101, graduation and commencement activities, and annual orientations.
- Facilitate and advise on academic actions: Incompletes, full and partial withdrawals, leaves of absence, transfers, readmissions, grading basis changes, and underloads/overloads.
- Work with Deans of Academic Advising to resolve complex student of concern cases.
- Assist with issues impacting academic success:
- Student of concern reports
- Exceptions after the deadline due to extenuating circumstances
- Refer to partner offices
- Assist with inquiries/requests from email@example.com
- Serve on OUE committees and working groups
- A bachelor’s degree in education or discipline related to academic advising assignment and one year of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- A master’s degree in a relevant field, including higher education or a liberal arts field.
- Experience working as an academic advisor in an academic affairs office or similar setting.
- Experience with data collection and analysis.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds including at-risk and/or first-generation students.
- Experience with student success programs focusing on retention and graduation.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
