Foreign secy to visit Nepal next week to boost bilateral ties | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Foreign secretary Vinay Kwatra will visit Nepal early next week to further deepen the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, the government announced Friday.
This will be the first high-level engagement between India and Nepal since the government led by P K Dahal Prachanda came to power after the elections last year. The visit, which is taking place at the invitation of Nepal foreign secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal, will also be Kwatra’s first standalone visit to Nepal since he assumed charge.
Kwatra is expected to also deliver an invite to Prachanda to visit India. The government said the visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and the priority India attaches to its relations with Nepal under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
“During the visit, the two foreign secretaries will hold discussions on the entire range of multifaceted cooperation between India and Nepal,” said the government in a statement.
“India has historical and civilisational linkages with Nepal, and bilateral cooperation between the two countries has strengthened in the recent years, with several major infrastructure and cross-border connectivity projects completed with India’s assistance. The visit will be an opportunity to further advance our bilateral ties,” it added.
