Over 66k drug seizure cases reported in 2022, Rajya Sabha told | India News – Times of India



NEW DELHI: The ministry of social justice and empowerment informed Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that as per the Narcotics Control Bureau the drug seizure cases as reported by the state drug law enforcement agencies have increased in the last five years. Data shows that there were as many as 66,758 drug seizure cases in 2022.
Giving year-wise break-ups, junior social justice and empowerment minister A Narayanswamy in a written response in Rajya Sabha shared that the number of cases was 49,450 in 2018 and it rose to 57,867 in 2019. In the following year the number was 54,758 and in 2021 it was 68,144.
The minister also shared that an impact assessment of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhyaan’ (NMBA) has been done in 11 states covering 68 districts by the United Nations Development Programme. The preliminary finds reflect that 76% of the respondents felt the need for NMBA in the community. As many as 64% of the respondents reported that they had heard about the campaign. Of all the respondents 50% had knowledge about nearby rehabilitation and treatment centres for substance use.
