NEW DELHI: In the past six years, the government has constructed and widened 60,479km of national highways (NHs) and added 31,189km of NH to its network, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
In a written reply, the minister submitted that the target for construction for the current financial year is 12,200km and till December-end 5,774km has been widened and built. For the year 2023-24, the ministry envisages to construct 13,000km, but targets have not been finalized, he said.On the issue of converting state highways (SHs) to NHs since 2017-18, the minister submitted to the Upper House that 12,532km of SHs were upgraded to NHs. The upgrade of SHs to NHs was lowest at 495km in 2019-20.
