CPM, Congress gave corruption & drugs to Tripura: Sonowal | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: BJP will retain government in Tripura as people value peace and development achieved in the state in last five years, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Tuesday, adding that both CPM and Congress, which governed Tripura for more than 40 years, gave nothing but corruption, violence and drugs to the region.
He was releasing a report by the Public Policy Research Centre, during which he said that northeast is now reaping the benefits of sustained efforts of the Narendra Modi government to mainstream the region.
Pitching for the incumbent government in Tripura, the Union minister of ports, shipping and waterways, and Ayush said that BJP always works towards development of all sections of society, which ensures safety and security in the country.
Sonowal said: “Northeast India has witnessed one of the most stunning transformations under PM Narendra Modi ji since 2014. The focus of the Modi government to enable and empower the people of the region has helped them to become a force of reckoning today. The empowered region has now been recognised as the new engine of growth for India. This is a huge leap in less than a decade for a region that earlier struggled for minimum development, progress and peace under successive governments.”
Stating that Tripura too enjoyed peace and development since 2014, Sonowal added: “Tripura has also come out of this shadow of neglect, along with the rest of the Northeast, due to the progressive steps undertaken by the Modi government. Under decades of misrule by the Congress, the Northeast suffered immensely as it lagged in development, lacked opportunities for its people. Owing to policy paralysis of the Congress government, the region could not move into the right path of growth and development. Under Modi ji, policies like transformation via transportation, and Act East Policy made tremendous impact in Tripura and the Northeast as transportation networks in rail, road, waterways and airways, and information technology underwent a massive uplift, facilitating growth and development in the region.”
